Operate signalling technology with high availability

Reliable insulation monitoring of the energy supply to the control and safety technology is necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the railway system. Monitoring and troubleshooting systems are crucial in this context to prevent failures and avoid delays.

Insulation monitoring for signalling and control systems

Railway signals and mast switch systems are essential for the safe operation of the railway system. Failure of these components can lead to significant operational faults. To prevent this, reliable monitoring of the insulation level minimises downtimes and facilitates the planning of maintenance measures.

Similarly important is the precise control of points, even under extreme winter conditions. The point heaters used for this are therefore critical for operation. Rapid detection and rectification of insulation faults is important to ensure availability.

Another important area that benefits from insulation monitoring is line train control (LZB). A failure of the line train control system (LZB) can have a serious impact on rail operations, as it supplies the train drivers with control variables and driving orders and monitors the driving behaviour of the trains. Particularly problematic are potential errors in data transmission or the power supply, which can lead to safety risks and operational interruptions.

To avoid such failures, the data transmission of the LZB takes place via a line conductor, while the power supply is handled via an unearthed 750 V AC system. Special ISOMETER®s continuously monitor this power supply, detect insulation faults at an early stage and thus ensure safe and uninterrupted operation. The power supply for the ETCS standard for train protection along the route is also ensured by the same reliable monitoring.

Residual current monitoring for safety installations and infrastructure

Safety at level crossings and safety installations is ensured by technical devices that are triggered by sensors when the vehicle passes over them. Residual current monitoring and insulation monitoring devices play a decisive role here, as they prevent these devices from failing and thus enable safe train and cross-traffic.
